Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, brought to local families by United Way of Portage County, is
a powerful early childhood literacy program that delivers free, high-quality books to children
from birth to age five. Every month, a new, age-appropriate book arrives in the
mailbox—addressed specifically to the child—helping to foster a love of reading, imagination,
and learning from the very beginning of life.
By enrolling in the program, families gain access to an invaluable resource that supports
language development, kindergarten readiness, and parent-child bonding through shared
reading. Studies have shown that children who participate in the Imagination Library are more
likely to develop strong reading skills and enter school better prepared to succeed.
United Way of Portage County is proud to serve as the local affiliate of Dolly Parton’s
Imagination Library, ensuring that every eligible child in our community has access to this
opportunity at no cost to families. Through the generous support of donors, community
sponsors, and volunteers, United Way covers the cost of books and mailing to keep the
program free and accessible to all.
Since its launch locally, thousands of books have been placed in the hands of young children
throughout Portage County—helping to build home libraries, instill confidence, and lay the
foundation for a lifelong love of reading. In Aurora, more than 500 children are receiving books
through the program. By supporting the Imagination Library, United Way of Portage County is
investing in the future of our community—one book, one child, and one story at a time.
